Intimate Waxing for Men - Frequently Asked Questions

Do men really get waxed?
Waxing for men is now an extremely popular service as more and more discover the enjoyment of being smooth and hair free

Why should I get waxed?
Waxing provides for a smooth finish with slow, softer regrowth. Shaving can cause itching and stubble. Other reasons depend on the individual, but can include:
• For sports reasons, eg swimmers and cyclists
• More hygienic, cleaner and a reduction in body odour
• Because you like it
• Because your partner likes it

How long does it last?
It depends on the individual, but treatments are usually every 4 - 6 weeks.

What does waxing involve?
A combination of methods are used. Warm, strip wax which is applied with a roller is applied to larger areas. For more intimate areas then peel-able wax is used that shrink wraps the hairs and provides for a really effective treatment that is more comfortable for the skin whilst thoroughly removing even quite short hairs

How should I prepare prior to my waxing appointment?
Showering before your appointment is preferable. The area can also be exfoliated between treatments to help remove dead skin and prevent ingrowing hairs. The hairs need to be at least 5mm long, so please don’t shave or use depilatory creams for 3 weeks before your waxing appointment. We can trim the hairs if necessary.
Loose fitting clothing and clean cotton underwear if you have booked for intimate waxing is preferable to allow the skin to breath and avoid rubbing

How long will the treatment take?
Treatment times vary depending on the amount of hair and the area being treated. Shortest times being 15 minutes for eyebrows or nose, up to an hour for a full Brazilian. It does get quicker and easier the more treatments that you have.

How should I care for my skin after treatment?
• Avoid all heat for 24-48 hours following treatment – i.e. no hot baths/showers, avoid sunbathing/sunbeds, no saunas/steam-rooms, no exercise
• Avoid swimming for 24-48 hours
• No fragranced body creams or similar products
• Antiseptic cream (can be purchased from our salon) is recommended post treatment for a few days to help soothe and heal the skin
• Ingrowing hairs can be assisted by the use of exfoliators and creams (can be purchased from our salon after your appointment if required)

What is Brazilian waxing?
Brazilian waxing for men removes hair from the intimate areas. Commonly known as the back, sac and crack, the hair is removed from the groin, penis, scrotum, buttocks and anal area. You can have as much or as little removed depending on your personal preference.

I’m worried about being naked or becoming aroused
We aim to ensure that you are put at your ease and to alleviate anxiety. Temporary arousal can happen with the manipulation of the genitals, which tends to disappear rapidly. However any inappropriate behaviour is not tolerated and only serious enquiries for treatment are welcome.

Body Waxing - Gentlemen - Southport

Southport Waxing | Gentlemen Body

Male waxing is a matter of personal preference and men have numerous reasons for removing their body hair. For most men, being waxed means increased self-confidence and appearance. In addition, men choose to remove body hair for:

• Sporting enhancements
• Muscle definition
• Intimate reasons
• Hygiene purposes
• Religious reasons
• Expression of personal style

Body odour is also a potentially embarrassing grooming issue and a common reason for removing body hair. While it’s not the hair itself that smells, body odour is caused by bacteria that grow in wet conditions. Hair reduces the amount of air exchange and traps sweat so it can support the growth of odour-causing bacteria.

Waxing body hair has long been popular among athletes because it could provide a slight competitive edge. For swimmers, cyclists and track stars, body hair may slow them down by causing drag or minimal wind resistance.

There are many benefits to waxing versus other forms of hair removal. It is an effective method to remove large amounts of hair at one time. It is a long-lasting method. Hair in waxed areas will not grow back for up to 6 weeks. When hair is shaved or removed by depilatory cream, the hair is removed at the surface rather than the root. Within a few days, the hair can be seen at the surface - hair tends to grow back in rough stubble. Areas that are repeatedly waxed over long periods of time often exhibit regrowth that is softer.

At Hollywood Wax Southport we use a combination of hard and soft wax for different parts of the body.

Hard Wax
Hard wax also known as hot wax is spread thickly onto the skin and allowed to dry slightly before it is gently but swiftly peeled away. This method is far less painful than most and pulls hair directly from the roots. The benefits include fewer in-grown hairs, less breakage and therefore longer re-growth periods. This wax also promotes skin hydration and is highly recommended for sensitive areas. Hot wax can be used on less sensitive parts of the body if clients wish.

Soft Wax
Soft wax also known as warm strip wax is used for thicker/less sensitive skin, for example - legs, arms, back, chest, and shoulders. A thin layer of wax is applied to the skin and is then removed using a paper strip.
